Daily Thread at The Old Print Works run regular, affordable open textile sessions for everyone.  We spoke to some to some participants at their Craftivism workshop.

Mahnaz

I was walking past one day, because I volunteer at [St Paul’s City] Farm and I saw a sign on a board outside. I had a look online and at social media. I thought this looks really interesting. I had a little bit of experience stitching but not a lot. I’m quite arty as well so I thought might as well try it. So I thought I’d pop along. I had been planning to come the previous month but this was a particular interest. I’m interested in climate change because I thing we should all be doing our bit, so it’s personal today.

Today, I’m making a badge, I’d say. It’s the symbol of the Extinction Rebellion with little trees in it. I’m hoping to either stick it on my bag so that everywhere I go people will see it.

Stitching is therapeutic and relaxing. Everyone seems very friendly and welcoming. I’ve been quite stressed out and it’s definitely a great way to de-stress.
