Support from the Muslim Women’s Network

In this time of uncertainty and self-isolation, I am writing to let you know that the Muslim Women’s Network UK (MWNUK) is still open and we are currently working from home. Calls are being diverted to mobile phones, also emails and web chat are fully functional. Referrals can still be made to those who seek help and advice.

MWNUK is a registered charity (no. 1155092), with a membership across the UK, made up of Muslim women and others all advocating for gender equality. As an organisation we find out about the lived experiences of Muslim women and girls through research and  from our helpline enquiries and use this knowledge to advocate and campaign for equality and social justice. Do check out our website for our downloadable resources, and our new member platform: WeRise

In 2015, MWNUK set up the MWN Helpline – a national specialist faith and culturally sensitive helpline that is confidential and non-judgemental, which offers information, support, guidance and referrals.

Last year we received enquiries on over 45 different issues, including:

·         Domestic Abuse and Sexual Abuse

·         Forced marriage and Honour based Abuse

·         Marriage and Divorce

·         Mental Health

·         Housing and Homelessness

MWNUK operate transparently and are proud to share our helpline data with other organisations to share best practice and better inform the bigger picture we have of different issues across the UK. Once a registered user, you can explore the data and specify location, age, ethnicity and so on. Our helpline evaluations are also downloadable to all here.

We want to reassure you that the MWN Helpline is still available to provide information, advice and support. If you constituents need support, please share the information below.

We would appreciate if you could also pass on our details to stakeholders you think would benefit. Attached is a poster of the MWN Helpline details. We are happy to post a hard copy out to you too- so be in touch!

Also, if you have any further enquires or questions, we would be happy to set up a time to discuss these.

The MWN Helpline is open Monday – Friday 10am – 4pm. The helpline has a dedicated team of awesome women both paid staff and volunteers from diverse backgrounds, and offer support and advice in English, Urdu, Punjabi, Mirpuri, Putwari, Hindko, Bengali and Zulu. They have undergone extensive training and deliver a professional and compassionate service. We work within the principles of confidentiality and General Data Protection Regulation.

And last year the helpline was awarded the Imkaan safeguarding standards award- for being an organisation that is ‘Safe’ to practice.
