The past few months have seen a deluge of windscreen-washing people at the traffic lights on the Bristol Rd/Highgate Rd. Aside from the fact that it seems very difficult to convince them that the windscreen really does not want cleaning, and that the ‘service’ is not needed, it is worrying to watch them weaving through the cars. It isn’t possible not to watch them, since it would be all too easy to knock them when traffic suddenly moves forward. On the other hand, it’s difficult to watch them without being distracted from watching the traffic itself. We know there is no easy answer to this – last week a policeman was vainly trying to have a word with them, but they are quick and this turns the policeman into yet another hazard. Any helpful suggestions anyone?
