Stories from: MECC Trust

Occupying the corner of Edward Road and Court Road, the MECC Trust have been supporting people across the City for over 40 years. Prior to lockdown, we went and met with a group who gather on Fridays following Jummah to chat and share a meal.

The MECC Trust was set up to provide a platform for Muslims in the community to develop their educational requirements and raise their awareness of Islamic values and principles. Over the years, the MECC has provided consultation to statutory bodies relating to religious and cultural matters.

Mahmood Zahid regularly attends the Friday gathering. Here he speaks in Urdu about what the organisation does, and what it means to him.

What started off as an educational initiative for the local Muslim community has become a service which brings people together for weekly activities and can advise on benefits and immigration issues. This short film gives more information about the history of the group and what they are doing in the present day.
