Birmingham will be commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day on Sunday 28th January 2018 at the Council House, Victoria Square, in the city centre. Doors open at 1pm, and visitors will be invited to light a candle of remembrance from 1.30 pm, with the commemorative ceremony starting at 2.00 pm.
Holocaust Memorial Day is the International Day of Remembrance as designated by the United Nations. It commemorates victims and survivors of the Holocaust and Nazi persecutions as well as other worldwide genocides. The ceremony will enable all those affected by the Holocaust and other genocides, either directly or indirectly, to reflect on these experiences and issues.
The theme from the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust for 2018 is The Power of Words.
I do hope that you will be able to be present on Sunday 28th January for this very important occasion. For more information regarding the days programme please visit www.birmingham.gov.uk
