St Alban’s Church, Highgate
We are an inclusive and diverse church with a wide variety of services and activities, from the traditional to the informal, within the Anglo- Catholic tradition of the Church of England. Whether it is sung Mass, quiet contemplation or family worship, we have something for you.
We are heavily involved in the local community. We have strong connections with Ark St Alban’s Academy where our vicar is chaplain. We support Stanhope Wellbeing Hub and administer the Highgate United Food Bank. We also host Local Welcome, an initiative to help asylum seekers and refugees.
Traditional Masses
We have a traditional Mass with choir and on the last Sunday the children join us to help with the readings and serving. Sunday Mass is followed by refreshments in the church hall. We also have two low Masses, at 11.30am on Thursday and at 9am on Saturday. The Saturday Mass is followed by a breakfast of tea, coffee and toast.
Sunday Evening Meditation
We have an informal Sunday evening service at 6pm. Normally this is Celtic Evening Prayer, followed by exposition of the Sacrament and informal Benedition with a lot of time to listen to music and for meditation. Sometimes we have a service based around an icon and its meaning to help us in our meditations. We also have a healing service several times a year.
Choral Evensong
As well as our Sunday evening meditation we also have a programme of Choral Evensongs by our own and visiting choirs. To find details of the dates and times of these services please look at our website, facebook or twitter.
Services for Young People and Families
Our Multimedia Family Service is at 5pm every Saturday during school term time in St Alban’s Church Hall. We use video, lighting, music and activities to create an easy to follow service for all ages. This is normally a communion service but there will be different services like a pet blessing service in the Autumn. Once a month there is a Sunday School during the Sunday morning service and we hope to start a messy church. – Entrance to the multimedia service and messy church is through the side gate.
