Balsall Heath CATS (Children Action Team Support)

Balsall Heath CATS (Children Action Team Support), was set up in 2003 by local families who experienced difficulties in accessing play and leisure facilities for their children. They focus specifically on catering for children with disabilities and complex learning needs, supporting and appreciating their different potentials.

They currently provide support for over eighty families, and deliver play and leisure opportunities for local children and young people who would otherwise be isolated.

What is Balsall Heath CATS?

The young people who attend CATS often face significant social isolation, as the extent of their disabilities can limit their participation in the community. Statistics have also shown that families with disabled children are more likely to be on the poverty line as parents can find it extremely difficult to find work which allows for their childcare responsibilities.

Balsall Heath CATS aims are to promote social inclusion through play, to open opportunities and break down barriers to learning for those with disabilities. Young people can attend the centre and get involved in lots of fun activities, make friends, develop new skills and build confidence.
